Hi everyone. I bought a new bathing suit today for the first time in about, hmmmm, get ready, 12 years or so. That’s right. That is how much I hate trying those things on. What motivated me was a 2 1/2 year old gift certificate to a store in my town , Johari, that was becoming fainter and fainter in my wallet. I had a sitter so I went in. They were kind enough to let me use it so long after the purchase date.
It was the best bathing suit experience I’ve ever had because I felt like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz; The owner catered to me like I was royalty, giving me new sizes and telling me exactly why I needed a different size (I will spare you the detailed imagery).
Anyway, I ended up with a lovely suit that I look good in, not perfect, but good enough.
All to say, that if we have the support we need (no pun intended), we can endure and even enjoy an unpleasant process, whether it be cooking a good enough meal or buying a new swimsuit.
Thank you to my friends who gave me the gift certificate and you know who you are!
I hope you like this fantastic salad dressing from the Nobu restaurant cookbook that my friend Meg gave me. It’s great on salads and fish.
Japanese Matsuhisa Dressing:
3/4 cup very finely chopped onion
2 TBS plus 2 tsp soy sauce
2 TBS plus one tsp rice vinegar
2 tsp water
1/2 tsp granulated sugar
pinch of salt
4 tsp grapeseed oil (can buy at Whole Foods)
4 tsp sesame oil
Combine all the ingredients except the oils. When the salt is dissolved, add the oils. Enjoy!
P.S. I’ll leave you with this nice quote from an article my friend Melissa sent me:
“Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Forget about those who don’t. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would most likely be worth it.”
