Hi everyone! Today we continue with our Celebrity Home Chef series where one does NOT need to be a gourmet chef to be posted about. Our chef today, Julia Baer Cooper, comes all the way from Virginia by way of Arizona. She is a Philanthropic Advisor at SARC Consulting and has twin daughters who LOVE her health shake.
She says that the first time she made it for the girls, probably 4 years ago when they were 8, they drank 1/2 of it before she had them guess the secret ingredient (the spinach, which they still won’t eat other than in the shakes) – they couldn’t guess (and subsequently have asked their friends to do the same thing).

Baer Family Green Shake:
1 cup apple juice (we use organic, not from concentrate) or milk (depends on ppl’s preferences)
scoop of vanilla (soy or whey) protein powder (optional)
2 tablespoons of ground flax-seed
heaping handful of fresh spinach
one large banana (the riper the better)
at least 1/2 cup of fresh or frozen berries (we always use strawberries, and then often blueberries, blackberries and raspberries — use mix if you need to camouflage the green color)
often some mango (1/2 of med size mango?) and pineapple (maybe 1/4 cup?) – can be fresh or frozen
Blend everything together – taste and add more of whatever is missing
